South Korea is one of the safest countries in Asia. Crime is very low and locals are extremely helpful to foreigners. Solo travelers, families, and women traveling alone all report feeling very safe.
Most Western passport holders can enter South Korea visa-free for up to 90 days under the K-ETA scheme, though requirements vary by nationality. Always check current requirements before travel.
Spring (AprilโJune) for cherry blossoms and mild weather, and autumn (SeptemberโNovember) for foliage colors are the best times. Summers are hot and humid with a monsoon season; winters are cold and dry but great for skiing.

Korean (ํ๊ตญ์ด) is the official language. English signage is common in Seoul and tourist areas. Younger Koreans generally speak more English, but learning a few Korean words goes a long way.
Get a T-money card on arrival โ it works on all metro, bus, and even taxis across the country. And skip the tourist restaurants near Gyeongbokgung: walk one street back and find where locals actually eat.
